Balancing academics and sports is never easy, but for Jasnoor Kaur, a Class 10 student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, it’s all part of the game. Representing the Under-19 Girls’ Basketball Team, Jasnoor has learned that success on the court demands more than just skill — it’s about stamina, coordination, and teamwork. In this candid conversation, she shares her journey, her best basketball advice, and how the school’s constant support motivates her to pursue her passion while excelling in academics.
Jasnoor, how did your journey in basketball begin and what position do you play?
I started playing basketball a few years ago and instantly loved it. I play both on attack and defense, which requires a lot of stamina and focus. You can’t afford to blink during the game! Every second counts, and being attentive is what keeps me going.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about the game?
The best tip I’ve learned is to always keep your body between the opponent and the ball. That way, it’s much harder for anyone to snatch it away. It sounds simple but it makes a huge difference in defense.
How do you balance sports with academics, especially during tournaments?
Honestly, it’s not too hard because my school is very supportive. Most tournaments don’t clash with my exams. Once, during the district match, I had an exam the same day, and the school shifted my exam date so I could play. That kind of support means a lot to me.
What was the most memorable part of your district experience?
Playing with my seniors! It was my first time playing at that level, and they were the sweetest — always guiding me and giving useful tips. It boosted my confidence.
What motivates you to keep improving?
The moment I realised I could easily snatch the ball from anyone, I felt unstoppable. That feeling of progress pushes me to train harder. I’m always excited for new opportunities to play and learn more.
