Share about your recent achievements in instrumental music.

Due to the board examinations, I have not been able to participate in interschool competitions recently. However, I have remained actively involved in instrumental music by performing at school assemblies, social events, and various school occasions.

How did music happen to you?

My journey with music began in childhood, when I naturally found myself tapping rhythms on tables and experimenting with beats. This early fascination led me to learn the tabla and gradually explore other hand percussion instruments like drums, conga, and bongo. I joined my first tabla class in December 2016 and have continued to develop my musical skills through regular practice and active participation in school performances.

How did your school support your journey?

The school strongly supported my musical journey by providing numerous performance opportunities at assemblies and major events such as Annual Day, Teachers’ Day, the Investiture Ceremony, Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day, Republic Day, and the birth anniversary of our respected Founder-Chairman, Dr Stya Paul. I also participated in interschool events, gaining exposure, appreciation, and confidence. My instrumental music teachers consistently encouraged me and helped refine my skills, contributing significantly to my overall personality development.

Did music change you as a person?

After I began learning music, I became calmer, my attention span increased, and my observation skills improved. I now view the world through a more artistic lens and find rhythm in repetitive actions and everyday sounds. Being the only one in my family to play an instrument earned me respect and appreciation, motivating me to continue with the tabla. Music transformed my personality and gradually became my identity. When pre-primary students fondly called me ‘Tabla Wale Bhaiya’ and asked for high-fives, my heart melted, and I felt deeply grateful for this beautiful art form.

How do you balance academics and music?

I may not be extremely studious, but I strongly believe that consistency matters the most. Showing up every day, even for a short time, makes a big difference. On busy days or before exams, I play the tabla for just five minutes. This keeps me consistent, refreshes my mind, and reassures me that I am continuously improving.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My father is the biggest inspiration in my musical journey. From the very beginning, he has supported and encouraged me to follow my passion. His hard work, dedication, and belief in me motivate me every day. Whenever I feel uncertain, his guidance gives me strength and teaches me patience, discipline, and perseverance.
