Apeejay’s Kathakar Club hosts an inspiring open mic and play

The Kathakar Club of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication hosted a remarkable event on campus that celebrated the power of open communication, creativity, and storytelling. The event brought together faculty, students, and distinguished guests for a day filled with impactful performances and thought-provoking messages.

The event began with a warm welcome from hosts Muskan Agarwal and Yashika Kaushik, who set a cheerful tone for the gathering. They extended their greetings for a “perfectly squared year,” expressing wishes for happiness and prosperity for everyone present.

The event featured Spermarche, an initiative that seeks to guide parents in supporting young boys through the challenges of puberty, fostering confidence and responsible adulthood. The event focused on breaking the silence around the lesser-discussed stories of male adolescence through an Open Mic titled My Teen Tales. The Open Mic created a platform for students to share personal anecdotes, poetry, and storytelling pieces reflecting their experiences of adolescence.

A Tribute to Virginia Woolf and a Powerful Play
The event also paid homage to the literary genius Virginia Woolf, with Kajal Sharma presenting a thoughtful note on her work and its relevance. This was followed by a self-written play titled Aakhri Khat performed and conceptualised by students. The play delved into the pain endured by lovers during the partition of India and Pakistan and explored how the scars of communal disharmony remain relevant today. The cast, including Stuti Rohilla, Kaustav Mukherjee, Ishika Pandey, and others, delivered a stellar performance that left the audience deeply moved.

The event concluded with heartfelt applause and gratitude from the hosts. The Kathakar Club students successfully created a safe space for conversations about sensitive issues like male puberty while addressing broader themes of love, loss, and social harmony. The blend of artistic talent and meaningful dialogue ensured that the event resonated deeply with everyone present.

By breaking taboos and encouraging open dialogue, students reinforced the power of storytelling to inspire change. Events like these serve as a reminder of the transformative potential of communication and creativity in shaping a more understanding and inclusive society.
