The festival of lights universally brings joy among all. Individuals light up their spaces with colourful diyas and lights. Thus, keeping up with the mood of celebration, students of Apeejay Stya University (ASU) recently participated in a diya making activity, allowing students to engage in a creative celebration of Diwali.
The event encouraged students from various disciplines to participate, adding to the university’s festive spirit. Participants crafted beautiful eco-friendly diyas, transforming simple clay lamps into vibrant works of art using colors, glitter, and design materials. Each student brought their unique style to the event, resulting in a wide array of diyas that reflected both traditional and modern artistic elements.
The atmosphere was lively and collaborative, with students exchanging ideas, helping each other, and showcasing their completed creations with pride. Many students expressed their excitement about participating in an event that connects them to Diwali traditions. This activity provided a hands-on way to embrace the essence of Diwali, symbolising the victory of light over darkness.
Beyond the creative aspect, the event fostered a sense of community, allowing students to bond over shared cultural practices. It also served as a relaxing break from their academic schedules, giving them an opportunity to engage in art and mindfulness. Several faculty members also attended, applauding students’ efforts and encouraging them to explore more cultural activities that keep these traditions alive.
The success of the diya making activity underscored the importance of blending cultural appreciation with creative expression, as it allowed students to connect with their heritage while enjoying a modern, interactive event. The beautiful diyas crafted during the event will be displayed across the campus during Diwali, adding to the festive ambiance and showcasing the students’ collective artistry.
Sharing her thoughts, Apeejay student Ria Bhowmick expressed, “The diya making event at the Apeejay Stya campus gave students a chance to learn about cultural traditions. This activity encouraged creativity and collaboration and showed how important sustainability is during celebrations. Students made eco-friendly diyas, which added depth and responsibility to the festive spirit. The event successfully combined cultural appreciation and environmental awareness, fostering a sense of community among participants.”
