
The DSO Throwball Competition 2024 took place at Apeejay School, Nerul recently. The aim of the event was to foster sportsmanship and provide a platform for students to showcase their athletic skills. Over 20 schools from the region participated in the competition, making it a vibrant and exciting tournament.
Distinguished guests, including Mr. Swaminathan R, a state and national-level basketball player; Mr. Dhananjaya Vermali, Secretary of Nerul Gymkhana; Mr. R.H. Gurav, Coach of the Indian Shooting Volleyball Team and DSO Officer in Navi Mumbai; and alumna Ms. Sagarika Raina, a Programmer Analyst, graced the event. They were warmly welcomed by the school’s principal, Mr. P. Subash, who also shared inspiring words with the participants. The inauguration began with the breaking of a coconut, followed by a friendly match.
Mr. Amit, the Sports teacher at Apeejay School, emphasised the significance of the event: “This is the second time we are organising this competition, and it is a really prestigious event. We are truly grateful to our Principal, Mr. P. Subash, for his support and guidance, which have enabled us to conduct this large district-level tournament.” The boys’ teams gave a commendable performance. Apeejay’s Under-17 Boys’ Team secured second place, while the Under-14 Boys’ Team earned third place. Their strong performance reflected the determination and effort put into their preparation. The tournament saw intense competition among all participating schools, with teams giving their best on the court.
On the second day of the event, heavy rainfall posed a challenge. However, the girls’ teams continued to play with unwavering enthusiasm despite the weather. Their resilience and sportsmanship stood out as they pushed through the difficult conditions, showing true dedication to the game. Mr. Amit expressed his pride in the students, stating, “I am proud to talk about my sports team and the way we organised this tournament. Our achievements are commendable: our under-14, under-17, and under-19 girls’ teams have all qualified for the regional level, which will take place on October 25th.”
Apeejay School’s throwball teams shone brightly in the competition. All three girls’ teams—U-14, U-17, and U-19—secured first place in their respective categories. This remarkable achievement has qualified them for the upcoming divisional level tournament, scheduled for later in October.
Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the DSO Throwball Competition 2024 was a memorable event. The outstanding performance of Apeejay School’s athletes demonstrated their skill, hard work, and commitment to excellence.
