AI agents set to revolutionise 2025

If 2024 marked the rise of Artificial Intelligence chatbots, 2025 is poised to be the year of AI agents — advanced bots capable of executing tasks on users’ behalf. These AI agents promise to automate mundane, time-consuming tasks, like importing email data into applications or filing expense reports, potentially transforming the way consumers and businesses use AI.

Tech giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, and Salesforce are at the forefront of this innovation. Microsoft, for instance, has already demonstrated tangible benefits through its Copilot programs. Charles Lamanna, corporate VP of Business and Industry Copilot at Microsoft, revealed that AI agents have improved IT self-help success by 36%, boosted HR case resolution times, and increased revenue per seller by 9.4%.

These agents operate as part of a broader generative AI ecosystem, with AI copilots serving as user interfaces. For instance, asking a chatbot to book a flight could prompt AI agents to check calendars, preferences, and budgets before suggesting options. Google’s experimental Project Mariner exemplifies this capability, navigating websites and extracting data from them—a glimpse of what’s to come.

Apple is also stepping into the AI agent arena, with planned updates enabling Siri to check emails, assess traffic conditions, and suggest optimal travel times. Meanwhile, AI agents for enterprise use are expected to automate routine IT and HR tasks, increasing efficiency.

2025 may not yet see fully mainstream AI agents, but it will undoubtedly be a defining year for their development and implementation.
