A meaningful session on values and personal growth

Recently, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, hosted a thoughtful activity for Class VII A that brought a quiet but powerful message to the surface. Ms Ria Sharma, PGT Psychology and School Counsellor, invited students to pause, reflect, and look closely at the people who influence them. The theme was simple yet revealing: Who is Your Role Model?

Students spent time writing about the individuals they admire. Some chose family members. Others turned to teachers, sportspersons, or well-known figures. As they wrote, they began unpacking what exactly draws them toward these people.

When children identify specific qualities they value, they start understanding what they want for themselves. Traits like honesty, kindness, confidence, discipline, or resilience suddenly become more than abstract ideas. They turn into personal goals.

Guidance from the counsellor

Ms Sharma guided the class toward a deeper takeaway. She helped them see that the role models they choose do more than inspire from a distance. They shape how young minds think, act, and grow. What this really means is that students often mirror the behaviour they admire. They absorb habits, attitudes, and ways of responding to the world.

Key insights for the students

The session opened up conversations around:

·         Choosing inspiration with awareness

·         Understanding that admiration is a doorway to self-improvement

·         Recognising that every chosen role model reflects personal values

·         Realising that small choices today shape long-term character

Why this session mattered

The activity encouraged students to look inward. It nudged them to think about identity, choices, and the future they wish to build. A simple exercise turned into a lesson in self-awareness and aspiration.

The learning that stayed with the class was clear. Choose people who lift your thinking and bring out the best in you because those influences quietly guide the person you are becoming.
