In an endeavour to foster a deeper connection with nature, the Eco Club of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, orchestrated a captivating nature walk through the school’s Culinary and Herbal Garden. This immersive experience, led by Mr Pranjal, TGT Science, and Mr Hari Kishan, the school gardener, not only engaged students’ senses but also intertwined experiential learning with classroom knowledge.
As the students meandered through the garden, guided by the aromatic whispers of herbs and the vibrant hues of vegetables, Mr Pranjal and Mr Hari Kishan orchestrated a sensory journey. The students explored the garden using their sight, smell, and touch, transforming the green expanse into a classroom without walls.
The tour transcended mere observation; it became a living laboratory where students connected firsthand experiences with the scientific principles learned in their classes. Cultivation of essential vegetable and fruit plants, including spinach, chenopodium (bathua), fenugreek (methi), radish, brinjal, and garlic, became not just a visual spectacle but a tangible link to classroom lessons on leaf venation, root systems, and flower structure.
In the herbal gardens, a cornucopia of medicinal wonders awaited discovery. Students encountered Withania (Ashwagandha), Aloe vera, Tinospora (Giloy), Kala naag, ajwain, tulsi to name a few. The garden transformed into a holistic classroom where the medicinal uses of these herbs were unveiled, enriching the students’ understanding of the symbiotic relationship between nature and well-being.
The verdant surroundings provided a canvas for discussion and exploration. Students actively engaged with the gardener and the science teacher, delving into queries about the uses and significance of various plants. The exchange of knowledge became a two-way street, as students shared their experiences from home, weaving a tapestry of insights that expanded the collective understanding of the green world.
As the sun-dappled leaves whispered tales of chlorophyll and the earth beneath cradled the roots of wisdom, Apeejay’s Eco Club not only facilitated a nature walk but fostered an appreciation for ecological harmony. This initiative not only sowed the seeds of environmental consciousness but also bloomed into a shared learning experience that will undoubtedly continue to flourish in the hearts and minds of the students. Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, once again, demonstrated its commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence but also a profound respect for the natural world.
